November River Fishing Report

It’s that time of year again in the Texas Hill Country that everyone looks forward to, TROUT SEASON!

The leaves are changing colors, the water fowl and birds of prey are everywhere, and the weather has been beautiful- a fantastic time to get out on the Guadalupe River! All the rain we received this fall has Canyon lake filled up and the river flowing beautifully which makes it the perfect time to take a float trip. The river has been flowing at 550-600 CFS for several weeks only recently dropping down to 450 CFS. These high flows make it tough for wade fishing but is absolutely ideal for a raft trip! By comparison last rainbow trout season the river flow never got above 160 CFS, these high flows are great for the fish and fishing! We have been catching lots of trout recently and with the second stocking only days away the fishing will continue to get better and better!

Guadalupe River

We are catching most of the fish on small egg patterns, san juan worm imitations and girdle bugs. The water has been slightly off color with the higher flow making it a bit tougher for the trout to see so bigger brighter flies have been working well. Copper johns, midges and pheasant tail variations have also been getting the trout in the mood to eat as well! With the recent drop in flow the water is clearing up and the fish are spreading out and settling in!

News and Updates

We were happy to donate a fly fishing trip to the Annual “Toads for Tots” kayak bass fishing tournament that takes place in Austin every year. The event is put on by a local kayak bass club called “krotejagers” . Every year this benefit tournaments raises thousands of dollars in donated toys and money to benefit the less fortunate children to make sure they have toys, fishing rods and so much more for Christmas! It is a wonderful cause and these guys put so much of their own time and effort to make this an awesome event. If you are interested in donating to this wonderful cause please contact us!
